Que tal um céu de LEDs no escritório ?

A Fraunhofer - grupo de pesquisa alemão – criou um teto diferente para escritórios. Trata-se de um experimento em que LEDs foram utilizados para simular um céu virtual, em que o teto realmente muda e se ajusta de acordo com os níveis de luz de fora do prédio. As nuvens também se movimentam de acordo com o céu real. O teto é uma tentativa de enganar o cérebro a pensar que você está em um local aberto, criando uma experiência mais agradável de trabalho. Ele é formado por pequenas “telhas” de 50 por 50 centímetros, contendo 288 LEDs cada uma. São ao todo 34.560 LEDs cobrindo 34 metros quadrados. A tela é capaz de formar 16 milhões de cores e não gasta mais energia do que luzes convencionais. O líder da equipe, Dr. Matthias Bues, explica o efeito psicológico desse teto:

“Os LEDs nos permitem simular essas mudanças dinâmicas na iluminação de uma forma que não é diretamente evidente a olho nú. Caso contrário, a iluminação pode distrair as pessoas de seu trabalho. Porém, a tela precisa flutuar [as imagens] o suficiente para promover a concentração e aumentar a vigilância. ”

Os testes iniciais mostraram que as pessoas gostaram de trabalhar sob nuvens simuladas. Dez voluntários foram convidados a trabalhar sob a tela. No primeiro dia, a iluminação não se movimentou – o céu simulado ficou parado. No segundo dia, a luz oscilou um pouco, e no último dia, oscilou rapidamente. Quando dada uma escolha, no quarto dia, oito dos voluntários escolheu as flutuações rápidas como seu ambiente de trabalho preferido.     www.bgocled.com

Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas tem nova iluminação

A Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas ganhou ontem uma nova iluminação com tecnologia LED. Foram instaladas 540 luminárias, que proporcionarão maior luminosidade, com menor consumo de energia. A nova iluminação gera uma luz branca e uniforme, que permite melhor identificação de cores e condições de visibilidade para o tráfego de veículos, ciclistas e pedestres.

- Entregamos aqui um presente da prefeitura para um dos pontos turísticos mais importantes da cidade. É o primeiro logradouro público iluminado a LED. Esse investimento tem um duplo efeito para a cidade: reduz em 50% o consumo de energia e aumenta em quase 40% a luminosidade. Passamos a ter aqui um dos principais cartões postais da cidade, mais iluminado, com mais qualidade, mais atrativo e consumindo menos energia, garantindo a sustentabilidade do Rio – afirmou o secretário Carlos Roberto Osorio.

Foram trocados todos os postes da orla da Lagoa, incluindo os que sofreram com processo corrosivo ao longo dos anos. Os novos são de aço com 4,5 metros e na base possuem sapatas que os elevam do solo e permitem o maior controle da corrosão. Os velhos postes serão levados para a Gerência de Materiais da Rioluz. Depois de avaliação técnica, eles serão recuperados com tratamento especial e pintura específica para reutilização em outros logradouros da cidade.

A substituição reduzirá em 50% o consumo de energia, o suficiente para iluminar 360 casas por um ano.
As luminárias escolhidas obedecem aos padrões europeus RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), não contém materiais prejudiciais ao meio ambiente e oferecem redução de 50% na emissão de CO2, considerando a emissão anual de 0.536 kg CO2 por kWh (European average from Eco-Invent). A nova iluminação também terá maior durabilidade, chegando a 50 mil horas de vida útil (11 anos considerando o uso diário de 12 horas).    www.bgocled.com

1v5 WHITE LED DRIVER

This circuit will drive a super-bright white LED from a 1.5v cell. The 60 turn inductor is wound on a small ferrite slug 2.6mm dia and 6mm long with 0.25mm wire.

The main difference between this circuit and the two circuits above is the use of a single winding and the feedback to produce oscillation comes from a 1n capacitor driving a high gain amplifier made up of two transistors.

The feedback is actually positive feedback via the 1n and this turns on the two transistors more and more until finally they are fully turned on and no more feedback signal is passed though the 1n. At this point they start to turn off and the signal through the 1n turns them off more and more until they are fully turned off. The 33k turns on the BC557 to start the cycle again.

If you do not have a ferrite slug, the inductor can be made from a machine screw 10mm long and about 3-4mm dia. Wind 150 turns of 0.25mm wire. Or you can use a brass ferrule 20mm long x 5mm. Wind 150 turns.

LED TORCH with ADJUSTABLE BRIGHTNESS

This circuit will drive up to 3 high-bright white LEDs from a 3v supply. The circuit has a pot to adjust the brightness to provide optimum brightness for the current you wish to draw from the battery.

The transformer is wound on a ferrite slug 2.6mm dia and 6mm long as shown in the LED Torch with 1.5v Supply project.

This circuit is a "Boost Converter" meaning the supply is less than the voltage of the LEDs. If the supply is greater than the voltage across the LEDs, they will be damaged.   www.bgocled.com

The US markets closed lower for the fourth-consecutive trading session, led by weakness in banks and energy, as investors turned cautious over a slowdown in the recovery.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 12,089.96, down 61.30 points or 0.50%. The NASDAQ Composite fell 30.22 points or 1.11%, to end at 2,702.56 and the SP 500 Index lost 13.99 points or 1.08%, to close at 1,286.17.
Robert Sluymer of RBC Capital Markets said, “Critical point here is somewhere between 1250 and 1260 – that’s really the next key support level in the market. That’s roughly around the 200 DMA.at technical levels are going to increasingly come into play as managers try to manage downside risk, simply by using technical levels on the SP. If we look at the 1295 level, that was violated today (Monday).”
The European markets fell for fourth straight session as investor confidence faltered on the slowing pace of global economy. European equities remained under pressure on expectations that ECB may signal a July rate hike.
The euro faltered versus the dollar after two days of gains, pressured by a German official’s comment that a second Greek bailout was not yet certain. The chairman of the euro zone finance ministers said the currency was overvalued.
Oil slips below USD 100 a barrel on expectations that OPEC will raise production targets this week and on continuing concerns about high prices curbing oil demand.
Copper gains, buoyed by a softer dollar following weak economic data out of the United States and output disruptions in producer Chile.

Getting gas from rocks is relatively easy, but there are still environmental concerns

Increasing gas supply and demand for the fuel could set off a “golden age of gas”, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said.

The IEA report showed that demand for gas could outstrip coal by 2030, and get close to demand for oil by 2035.
The agency points to the uncertain future of nuclear energy as one of the main reasons for gas becoming so popular.
The IEA said that growth in the sector would be led by China and the US.
“Ample supplies, robust emerging markets and uncertainty about nuclear power all point to a prominent role for gas in global energy mix,” the IEA said in a report.
Main drivers
China is endeavouring to use cleaner forms of fuel in the coming years and that is likely to increase the demand for gas substantially.
“Worldwide, 16 of the 20 most polluted cities are in China, largely related from coal power plant production,” said Fatih Birol of the IEA.
“For this reason, China is pushing for gas to replace a lot of coal power production,” he added.
Mr Birol added that China currently uses nearly as much gas as Germany, but given the growth potential, its consumption may exceed that of the entire European Union by 2035.
As for the demand from the US, the IEA said that 60% of the country’s coal power plants are expected to be retired in the next 20 years.
“There is a strong chance that a large proportion (of those coal mines) will be replaced by gas,” said Mr Birol.      www.bgocled.com
